Michael's Tricks!

Oh my Michael!

He is so much fun and we can already see some different traits in the boys. He has shown himself to be a very determined little fella! For example - I started giving the boys Puffs and Michael will sit in his highchair quietly for a long time trying very deligently to get the Puffs in his mouth. When you get him out there may be one or two that didn't make it, but mostly he has eaten most of them - When you get Jeremiah out, ALL are in his lap or the floor!

He is also working really hard with his crawling and maneuvering into certain places. His favorite things this week are the fireplace (Which I constantly say "NO" and redirect - ALL DAY) and the bottom of the exersaucer. When ever Jeremiah is playing in it, Michael will crawl in it by his feet - and Jeremiah finds it very funny!

He is such a sweet and content baby! I pray that he will maintain the quality that he is already showing us he has of being persistent and diligent - and that God will use those qualities to honor Himself. I look forward to seeing the ways that God will use him and what he will add to our family - He is a precious little man!

He crawled all the way from the living room to the bedroom (Which is around a corner and down a hall) He is a busy baby! *Isn't he a cute scooter?!*




He crawled behind that ottoman and in between the couches. He didn't do this without me there - I was watching to see exactly what he was going to do and if he could figure it out. But, don't worry - he isn't allowed there anymore :)




These pictures are in order of how he got in and out. He started getting out, then decided that he wanted to go to the beloved fireplace!







If any of you moms have any good ideas to get them to stop playing near the fireplace I would greatly appreciate it! Whenever they go near it (Which is 102 times a day), I sternly say "NO" and will even slap the fireplace or tile in front of them while I say it - however, they just laugh when I do it - and I am real stern in my voice, yet they still laugh. I will also redirect them after I say No, and will remove their hand while they are on their way to touching it, all the while saying "no" or "No touch." We don't use the fireplace, but I don't want to block it because when we are at someone else's house they could have a fire in their fireplace and I want the boys to learn they are not allowed to play with them. So - any ideas would be wonderful!!!

Moments to Remember.

I love it when I can catch some Daddy Moments with the camera! Mike is so good with the boys and they just love him! These are moments worth remembering!

Farewell Mr. President

Whew! At this moment, I am watching the former President and his wife board the helicopter that will take him to Andrews Air Force Base. I will admit, and it won't be a surprise to many of you, that tears are being shed in the Spivey household today. (Mostly by me - the boys have tears, but for other reasons). My heart is saddened that he is no longer our president, yet so thankful that the Lord placed him in that position for "such a time as this." How grateful we should be for a president that was a man of integrity! He made his decisions and stood my his convictions - and was not swayed by the liberal media or influences. Not only did he enter the highest office in the land with class, but he is exiting it in the same manner.

I agree that this was a Historic day! Not only did we watch a peaceful transition of power but the country inaugurated the first African American President. However, based on this man's stance on issues (abortion, gay marriages, the war), and the record that he has, I am not thrilled that he was the one inaugurated. Will the Spivey Household bash the man? Not at all! He is our President and we show him respect and pray for him as he leads our country. Because all of us can agree that he has the toughest job and deserves our prayers. We will agree with everything he does? Most likely, not! Yet, the fact remains that he is our President.

We will miss George W. Bush and we will pray for President Barack H. Obama.

Some cute things

The boys are finding something new everyday! The way their little minds work amazes me and I love to see them discover new things (Even if it means I am constantly having to be quick on my toes!) Michael is crawling now - sometimes he gets lazy and goes back to scooting, but he can do it! Jeremiah is becoming a fast little scooter - I mean fast! They can see a tiny speck across the room and off they go! This little speck is by the wall, and I can barely see it, but they sure go after it.

Michaels new favorite thing is sneezes. He loves it when someone sneezes, or even when he sneezes himself - it is very adorable.


Brad (AKA Pappy) and his wife, Karen came over last night and the boys loved playing with Brad's shoelaces. He would tie them and we would move the boys somewhere else and they would scoot right back and untie them!




Jeremiah found this teething ring very interesting. He figured out that he can look through it at people. Earlier before this picture was taken he would look through it at Michael and burst out in laughter!






Well, Tomorrow is a big day. For me, it is a sad day. Most of you guys know that I really love George W. Bush. It is very sad to me that he is only our president for one more day. *sniff* *sniff*
I will blog about this more tomorrow - along with some political baby pictures!

9 Month Well Check Up

We found a pediatrician and we LOVE them! The whole office was so well managed and we were very impressed with everything. My favorite part about the office was that they had two changing stations that you can change your babies in where THEY provide all the supplies: diapers, wipes, bags, etc. Even when I took the boys back for appointment, I went to change their diaper for the weight check, and the nursed stopped me from using my diaper and gave me some so I wouldn't have to use mine! How thoughtful!!! For a mom that does cloth diapers, that is an added plus for me!

The doctor was so kind and was really patient and gentle. I really wanted a male doctor since the boys will be getting older and he is the perfect doctor for them! He has two boys himself and is also a Christian that goes to church right by our church - and he is from Kentucky! So we had alot in common with him! (The only thing was that he smelt like a Vet's office - but it's ok!)

Now, onto the actual appointment :)

The boys are doing good - they only weigh 15 pounds. That is only 1 pound of weight gain in 2 months! I have learned to not be concerned anymore, because these are the happiest kids around! The doctor agreed and said they were perfect and no need to be concerned about their weight. As long as their growth curve was steady, I don't need to change anything we are doing.

He said that in about a month I can introduce table foods to them - some meats and yogurt and other varieties. One thing I thought was interesting was that he said not to give salt at all in the first year. He said the babies that are introduced to salt in their first year are at a greater risk for high blood pressure in their 30's.

The boys were tested for anemia because he said that twins are at a greater risk for becoming anemic. Something to do with them being premature and their spleen (a little confused about all of it) - so, they got their finger pricked and tested. They called yesterday and said that they are, in fact, anemic. So I need to give them so Iron drops and start feeding them spinach and more iron-rich foods. They will be retested in 3 months, and they said that the more they eat, and the older they get they should just outgrow of it. Also, he wants me to give them some vitamin drops as well, and make sure they get outside for 15 minutes a day - that is a little hard with it being so cold, but we will get creative. He said that breastmilk can lack certain vitamins that they need. Once they are eating more of a variety of foods they will get those vitamins elsewhere.

After they got their finger pricked, the nurses put these little baby bandaids on them. The nurse told me to take it off in a little bit so that they wouldn't eat it. The boys were exhausted after their appointment and once we got home, I nursed them, so I just kept getting distracted before taking it off. The boys were playing on the floor and Mike and I heard a gagging/coughing sound from Michael. We rushed over and Mike noticed the bandaid was gone! I did the finger sweep in his mouth that we learned to do in First Aid, and I didn't feel anything, but he was still chocking on something. So, I stuck my finger in his throat and it was right at the edge of my finger and I was able to bring it out. It was a very scary moment! We immediately took off Jeremiah's bandaid. I should have just trusted my instincts in the beginning and taken off that bandaid even though they were tired and fussy.

Gran and Granddaddy

I am blessed to have grown up with such remarkable grandparents! Not only are they wonderful grandparents, but they are amazing great-grandparents too! One of the great things about living with my parents this summer/fall is that they live right behind Gran and Granddaddy, so we got to see them every day as well. They love the boys and are so good with them - they will get on the floor and play right along side of them! They are so good natured and fun to be around. Those of you that know them, know exactly what I am talking about! Here are some pictures of the boys with them over the Christmas break.
