Cloth Diapering and more swim pics!

Well - many of you have asked if and when we will be starting cloth diapers and the time has come! We started using cloth diapers for about 2 weeks now and I think we are getting the hang of it. It is real fun and we haven't had many leaks once we figured out some tricks. It is real easy and it will be saving us a ton of money.

My mom has a co-worker who does cloth diapers and his wife was gracious enough to have us over to show us a few pointers. She also gave me a whole box of cloth diapers, which was so generous of her! We are set on cloth diapers for a LONG TIME! (We have 79 diapers - all different types; and 18 covers - I think we are set:) )I have taken some pictures of various diapers that we have put on the boys. I will describe them below each picture. Enjoy!!!

This is a diaper.

This is how I begin the fold. Roll the sides in to create a gutter.

Then just fold in between legs.

Fold sides over and snap it with a "Snappi". This has teeth on each end and hooks to the diaper. No Pins!!! It's so Easy!

This is Michael with a green-lined diaper on.

Here is Michael with a folded diaper on with a snapped cover over. I have a LOT of variety of covers - some velcro, snap - colorful and white ones. I will have to take more pics of them and post them later.

This is so far my favorite diaper. (Jeremiah likes it too) It is called a "Kissaluv". It is thick and absorbant and comes with snaps - so we don't have to use snappi's or pins. It is so easy! You put a cover of this one.

Now this is a gdiaper. My friend Laura introduced us to these. Inside this diaper is a plastic liner that we insert a folded diaper in. The liner snaps onto the cover (what you see). and then you just velcro the diaper on. I think it has a cute look to it! This one is the only diaper that we have that leaks, but I think that is just because we haven't mastered the insert yet. Give us time! :)

This is the back - has a "g" on the bottom.

This is a diaper from "Cloth your Angel". They are already shaped for your baby and you just velcro them on and put on a cover. Piece of cake. We have about 6 of these in all different colors.

This is a "Snug To Fit" This diaper will fit them until they are potty trained. It has snaps on the front where you can adjust the size of them. This one needs a cover. They are a little too big for the boys right now.

This is an all-in-one diaper. It needs no cover. It is still too big for them.

Here is what it looks like with a onesie. They sure do change the shape of their clothing, so if I have a special outfit then they will wear a disposable. :)

I will take some more pictures of the boys in their covers and post them later. We are still learning a lot about cloth diapers, but so far it has been so easy and a lot of fun! It has been such a blessing that my mom's friend blessed us with SO MANY diapers. My mom purchased two starter kits of diapers (the gdiapers and some from Green Mountain Diapers)and the rest were given to us. And as far as washing them goes - it really hasn't been that bad. We have SO MANY diapers, so I am not having to wash diapers every day. I have been washing them about every 3 days, since we only use about 5-6 a day per baby (10-12 total). I could really get a way with washing a lot less. We are also going to start using our own wipes. One of the starter kits came with 10 fabric reuseable wipes. We will keep y'all updated on our progress!

Also, here are some more pictures of the boys swim day and some family pictures of us. Enjoy!

Looks like the cloth diapers is going great-I am going to try to e-mail you pictures of how to fold the inserts for the g-diapers, and hopefully you'll figure out the tricks so they will stop leaking for you-but it looks like you have a ton of others too! That is awesome that your mom's friend gave so many to you-they are so expensive...but you know that:) Anyway, love the swimming pictures and the one of all four of you-it's so cute! :)

Hey hey.. We have a blog now.. You will have to check it out.. First attempt so don't laugh.. Hey why did you decide to do cloth diapers?

YEAH!!! I love it when people decide to cloth diaper! Let me know if you have any questions.....most things I posted on my blog because at leaset once a week someone e mails me about something wtih diapers.

Is the "g" diaper used? It could have soap build up which will cause it to leak.

I can say one thing I have never seen cloth diapers such as those. It gives the name round bottom a whole lot of meaning. Love the pictures of them taking a sun tan by the pool. Give them hugs and kisses from MeMa and PaPa. Hope to see all of you real soon.

We took a break for the summer since we're living in a different state and all necessities had to fit in our small car... but we normally use the bumgenious one size all-in-one diapers.

For wipes, I cut up some old receiving blankets that were given to me and hemmed the edges.

That's great that your doing the cloth! It will save you a lot and keep all of those diapers out of the landfills!
