Officially in my Second Trimester!!!

Well, today marks the first day of my second trimester. I am 14 weeks and 1 day! The doctor said in the next few days I should probably be feeling much better. I am so ready to have an appetite again and enjoy food and lots of it! Before I was pregnant I could eat ALL THE TIME! I could have easily gained 30 pounds then. So, I am so ready to feel better and to enjoy this pregnancy. Not that I haven't enjoyed it, it has just not been very pleasant being sick or feeling sick all the time. My sweet and poor husband has done all of the cooking (I think I have cooked 5 meals or so) and most of the cleaning. I really could not have gotten through this first trimester without him. The crazy thing is that in 3 weeks I will be halfway there for my pregnancy. She wants me to get to 34 weeks and it is wild to think that in 20 weeks from now we could have two babies here! Whew!

Well, speaking of two babies. Mike and I are HIGHLY considering doing cloth diapers. We were positive on doing it when we thought we were only pregnant with one child, and then when we found out it was twins we figured we would just do disposables. I have been researching cloth diapers more and really think it is something we would like to do. For several reasons:

1. It was SO MUCH cheaper. The average cost of disposable diapers a month for TWO babies will be: $160 a month (that is around $2,000 a year). To invest in cloth diapers will be around $300 TOTAL until potty training. That will save us around $4,500 dollars. That in and of itself is a good reason to me.

2. Both Mike and I were allergic to disposable diapers and so we were both cloth diapers. Won't it be sweet to continue that on with our children - just kidding. However, it is true that 50% of disposable diaper babies get diaper rashes. I am sure that can be true with cloth if you don't change them as often as you should. And, who knows if our children will inherit the "allergic to disposable diaper" genes from us.

3. Cloth Diaper children potty train faster. The diapers are not as absorbant as disposables and so it is more uncomfortable for the child when they get to potty training days. With two kids the same age, I need them potty trained quickly!

4. I just think it's cute!

Yes, Cloth diapers can be a hassle, but it is not something we can't learn to do. We will bring disposables to church and for babysitters and stuff. We are not going to expect that everyone that comes in contact with our little bundles of joy, will know how to change a cloth diaper. Another argument that people say is that it is more laundry and you have to clean them in the toilet and stuff. Well, my theory is - I will be doing laundry anyways! And if it saves me $4,000 then I will do what I have to do - even if it means cleaning them in the toilet . (Maybe that part of it can be Mike's Job - just kidding Mike!)

Molly, I love your idea of cloth diapers. I really want to do that too when we have kids. I asked my mom about it and she said the cloth diapers they make now are so much better than the ones when were kids so it might not be much of a hassle at all.

Molly-I have a lot of friends who use cloth diapers and they love them. Check out my friends' blog: http://prayerofhannah.blogspot.com, and look a couple weeks back--they had two weeks of posts on their personal cloth diaper preferences and recommendations for cloth diapers. It might be helpful to see their different opinions:-) Hope all is going well for you and Mike!
Blessings,
Leah
