Day Forty-Three: February 12, 2011

I got to sleep in today. WHOO HOO!!! Until ten a.m. mind you! This doesn't happen often, and so when Mike says "how about you sleep in as late as you can tomorrow." I don't hesitate to take him up on that!

We have a blow up pirate ship that's taller than the boys and Mike brought it out this morning. Of course the boys LOVED it and Jeremiah would run into our room and say "Mommy BIG boat!" Too cute. We had to put the boat up for nap and so the boys pretended that their bed were their boats. This brought back some fond memories for me. When I was little my mom and I used to call my bed my "Bed Boat." My mom had this book that had hymns in it along with the stories behind the hymns. Our favorite was "Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go" by George Matheson - who was engaged to be marry, but when his fiance learned that he was going blind she broke the engagement. He learned that there is One love that will never leave him. I remember countless nights singing that hymn in our bed boat... "In my bed boat, in my bed boat" - we made up this little jingle about my bed boat and today at nap time I sang that same little jingle to my kids. I love the circle of parenthood - things that I cherished about what my mom did with us, I am now doing with my children! Oh, if I can be at least half the mom my mom is!

The boys have been carrying around their little Bibles that they got when they were dedicated. Michael asked Mike to read it and so Mike opened it up to Psalm 46 (that is what Mike is preaching on Sunday night). Michael laid there over Mike's arm as he read the whole Psalm to him - at one place it says "holy place" and that triggered a song for Michael and he started singing "Holy Holy Holy" - for the next 30 minutes he walked (sometimes ran) around the house looking at his Bible singing "Holy, Holy, Holy." I tried to follow him around with the camera and video tape it and he would just speed up. I got a video of Jeremiah doing it. Michael would give him that Bible to "read."

Another fun thing that Michael did this week is that he figured out on his own that "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Start" and the ABC song is the same tune! On his own he figured this out - now I think that is pretty smart, but I know I am the mom! He was singing Twinkle Twinkle, when he then exclaimed "ABC SONG" so he started singing that and stopped in the middle and said "TWINKLE TWINKLE!" and it was like a light went off in his noggin! - they are the same tune! Sweet boy!

Tonight was a birthday party for a little boy in our church. The party was at their house and a lot of church members and families were there! It was really fun - they had a campfire, hayride, hotdogs, etc. All day the boys would say "birfday party!" - they were so excited! The party favors were flashlights with their names on it - they gave it to them when we got on the hay ride - if you know the boys you know that they loved that!

Towards the end of the night, when John Christopher was opening his presents, Michael started to play ping pong - Mrs. Terry helped show him the ropes and teach him some skills! (by the way, the boys only know her as "Donald Duck" because yes, she does a mean Donald Duck impression!)
